Correct Answer - Option 4 : Mucosa

The correct answer is Mucosa.

  • The Gastrointestinal tract is composed of four layers and each layer has different tissues and functions.

  • These four layers are serosa, muscularis, sub-mucosa and mucosa.
  • The serosa is the outermost layer of the GI tract and is composed of a thin mesothelium with some connective tissues.
  • Muscularis is formed by smooth muscles that are usually arranged into an inner circular and an outer longitudinal layer.
  • The submucosal layer is composed of loose connective tissues and contains nerves, blood, and lymph vessels.
  • The mucosa is the innermost layer which is composed of epithelium cells and thin connective tissue.
  • It helps in absorption and secretion.
