A door is 1m wide. It can be closed by an effort of 25N, when effort is applied at a distance of 0.4m from the hinge. What effort is needed, if it is applied at its extreme end?

E × Effort arm 25N × 0.4m 

∵ work done in both cases is same 

Now effort EN × 1m = 10 

E= 10/1 = 10N
