Regarding the office of the Lok Sabha Speaker, consider the following statements:

Correct Answer - Option 2 : 3 only

The correct answer is 3 only.

  • The speaker is elected generally in the first meeting of the Lok Sabha following general elections. Serving for a term of five years, the speaker chosen from sitting members of the Lok Sabha (House of the People), and is by convention a member of the ruling party or alliance.
  • If the Lok Sabha Speaker wants to resign the letter of his / her resignation has to be addressed to the Deputy Speaker.
  • Both, Loksabha Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Loksabha can send the resignation letter to each other while resigning from the post.
  • The Indian government's chief legal adviser, Attorney General of India, is appointed by the president of India under Article 76(1) and holds office during the pleasure of the president. Hence the statement 1 is incorrect.
