Correct Answer - Option 3 : (a) and (b) are correct and (c) and (d) are wrong

Evaluation: Evaluation is the systematic assessment of the design, implementation, or results of an initiative for learning or decision making. It is a data-gathering process to determine the worth or value of the instruction or its strengths and weaknesses.

Formative evaluation:- Formative evaluation or assessment is the monitoring that occurs throughout the process of learning, providing students with feedback on how they are doing and what their next learning steps are.

Purpose of Formative Evaluation:-

  • It is used to monitor the learning process of students during the period of instruction.
  • It provides continuous feedback to both teachers and students concerning learning successes and failures while instruction is in process.
  • It diagnosis the weak spots of learning and teaching.
  • Feedback to students reinforces successful learning and identifies the specific learning errors that need correction.
  • Feedback to teachers provides information for modifying instruction and for prescribing individual and group remedial work.

Hence, it is concluded that Option 3 is correct.

NOTE:

  • Both the evaluations are important to assess the learning of students.
  • Summative evaluation:- Evaluation taken by the students at the end of the unit or semester to demonstrate what they have and have not learned. Example- Assigning marks or grades to a final exam.
