Correct Answer - Option 1 : 0

The correct answer is 0.

  • An oxidation number or oxidation state is an indicator of the level of oxidation of an atom bound in a chemical compound.
  • This number counts how many electrons that atom has lost in the chemical bond of that compound to other atoms located in that compound.
  • For example, in water (whose chemical formula is H2O), both hydrogen atoms have given one electron each to the oxygen atom.
  • Therefore the oxidation number of every hydrogen atom in water is +1 while that of oxygen is -2 (because it gains two electrons instead of losing it).
  • The oxidation number of oxygen in the Ozone is 0 because there are no electrons transferred.
