The Election Commission of India conducts free and fair elections at the national level, state level, and local level. The Chief Election Commissioner regulates the Election Commission of India.

Sukumar Sen was the first Chief Election Commissioner of India from 21st March 1950- 19th December 1958.

  • India successfully conducted its first two general elections during the leadership of Sukumar Sen.
  • The Chief Election Commissioner of India belongs to the Indian Civil Services.
  • No one can remove the Chief Election Commissioner from his post apart from the President.
