Correct Answer - Option 4 : 4

Given:

A person has to buy both apples and mangoes

The cost of one apple = Rs. 7/-

The cost of a mango  =  Rs. 5/-.

The cost price of both mangoes and apples = 38

Calculations:

Let the number of apples be 'x' and mangoes be 'y'

The total cost price of apples = 7x

The total cost price of Mangoes =  5y

7x + 5y = 38

If we assume he bought the maximum number of Apples = 35/7

⇒ 5

At least there will be a minimum number of mangoes

Assume 4 Apples = 4 × 7

⇒ Cost of 4 apples = 28

Remaining amount = 38 - 28

⇒ 10

For 10 rupees we can buy mangoes = 10/5 = 2 mangoes

∴ The number of apples he can buy is 4
