Correct Answer - Option 2 : Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter

The correct answer is Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

  • NASA released a picture of crashed Vikram lander on 3, December 2019. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite did NASA use to find Vikram.

  • The Chandrayaan2 Vikram lander has been found by our NASA Moon mission, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
    • See the first mosaic of the impact site, NASA said in a tweet sharing before and after impact images.
    • On September 7, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) attempted a soft landing of Vikram on the Moon.
  • The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter:
    • It is a NASA robotic spacecraft currently orbiting the Moon in an eccentric polar mapping orbit.
    • Data collected by LRO have been described as essential for planning NASA's future human and robotic missions to the Moon.
    • Launch date: 18 June 2009

  • A decade after the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sent a Lunar CRater Observations and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) to the moon's south pole, the space agency is about to start the same project again.
    • LCROSS was launched with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) in 2009.
    • It aimed to determine if water-ice exists in a permanently shadowed crater at the Moon's south pole.
    • LCROSS and LRO found evidence of the lunar soil in shadowy craters.
    • It also revealed that the Moon is chemically active and has a water cycle.
    • LCROSS also confirmed the water was in the form of mostly pure ice crystals in some places.
  • Skylab:
    • Skylab was the first United States space station, launched by NASA, occupied for about 24 weeks between May 1973 and February 1974.
    • It was operated by three separate three-astronaut crews:
      • Skylab 2, Skylab 3, and Skylab 4.
    • Launch date: May 14, 1973
  • Juno:
    • Juno is a NASA space probe orbiting the planet Jupiter.
    • It was built by Lockheed Martin and is operated by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
    • The spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on 5 August 2011 UTC, as part of the New Frontiers program.
