Consider the following statements related to constitution amendments:

(i) Article 368 mentions two methods of constitution-amendment.

Correct Answer - Option 2 : only (I) and (iv) 

The Correct Answer is only (I) and (iv).

  • Article 368 in Part XX of the Constitution deals with the power of parliament to amend the constitution and its procedures.
  • Article 368 provides for two types of amendments, that is,
  1. By a special majority of Parliament and
  2. By the special majority of parliament along with the ratification of half of the state's legislatures by a simple majority. Hence, statement (i) is correct.
  • Amendment of certain provisions of the constitution requires amendment by a simple majority of each house present and voting. 
  • These amendments are not deemed to be amendments under Article 368.
  • The Constitution-amendment bill can be introduced in Lok Sabha or in Rajya Sabha. Hence, statement (ii) is incorrect.
  • The Constitution-amendment bill can be introduced either by a minister or by a private member and does not require prior permission of the president.
  • Since the Constitution can be amended only by a 2/3rd majority in both Houses. There is no provision for a joint sitting in case of a disagreement between both Houses. of Constitutional amendment Bill. Hence, statement (iii) is incorrect.
  • The President cannot exercise a veto power on the Constitution-Amendment Bill. Hence, statement (iv) is correct.
