Correct Answer - Option 4 : i, iii and iv

The correct answer is Wife - 'O', Son - 'A' AND  and Daughter - 'O'.

  • A person of blood group A can receive blood either from group A or O as there are no antibodies for A and O in blood group A.

  • Blood transfusion:
    • It is the process of transferring blood products from one to another blood circulatory system.

  • ABO blood group system:
    • The basis of ABO grouping is two antigens:
      • Antigen A and
      • Antigen B
    • The ABO grouping system is classified into four types.
    • It is based on the presence or absence of antigens in the red blood cells and plasma antibodies.
      • Group A
        • It contains antigen A and antibody B.
      • Group B
        • It contains antigen B and antibody A.
      • Group AB
        • It contains both A and B antigens and no antibodies (neither A nor B).
      • Group O
        • It contains neither A nor B antigens and both antibodies A and B.
  • It is important for the blood cells to match while transfusing.
  • Donor-recipient adaptability is needed.
  • For example, a person of blood group A can receive blood either from group A or O as there are no antibodies for A and O in blood group A. Hence statements 1,3 and 4 are correct.

  • Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian scientist discovered the ABO blood group system.
