Correct Answer - Option 3 : 22nd December

Mathematics is the study of geometrical figures, their co-relation, and their dependency on each other. It deals with quantity, measurement, and spatial relationships.

  • The National Policy of Education (1986) lays down the importance of "mathematics" as a vehicle for developing creativity.
  • The teacher should use effective teaching methods of mathematics so that individualized discovery-oriented (or problem-solving) learning could be fostered.

  • In 2012 our former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh declared that every year 22nd December will be celebrated as the National Mathematics Day in India.
  • It is to give respect and homage to the legendary mathematician "Srinivasa Ramanujan" who was born on 22nd December 1887 in Tamilnadu and died at the age of 32.
  • The main aim of celebrating this day is to make people aware of the importance of mathematics in our daily life.
  • At the age of 12, he had mastered trigonometry and he developed many theorems on his own without any formal training in mathematics.
  • He mainly contributed to the number theory and infinite series. In 1918, he was elected to the royal society of London.

Hence, it could be concluded that Mathematics day is observed on 22nd December.

  • The international day of mathematics is celebrated on 14th march as declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
  • 14th march also celebrated as (π) Pi Day.
