Correct Answer - Option 3 : Pythagoras

Mathematics is the study of geometrical figures, their co-relation, and their dependency on each other. It deals with quantity, measurement, and spatial relationships.

  • The National Policy of Education (1986) lays down the importance of "mathematics" as a vehicle for developing creativity.
  • The teacher should use effective teaching methods of mathematics so that individualized discovery-oriented (or problem-solving) learning is fostered.

Pythagoras
  • He was a Greek philosopher and mathematician.
  • He has been known for the proof of the important Pythagorean theorem.
  • He believed that everything could be reduced to numbers and these numbers have their own characteristics.
  • He quoted "things are numbers".
Euler
  • He was a Switzerland born mathematician and physicist.
  • He worked in almost all the areas of mathematics such as geometry, calculus, trigonometry, algebra, and number theory and as well as in different areas of physics.
  • He is the only mathematician to have two numbers named after him:
    • Euler's number in calculus (e) approximately equal to 2.71828.
    • Euler's constant approximately equal to 0.57721.
Archimedes
  • He was a Greek-born physicist, mathematician, engineer, and astronomer.
  • He was the first one to calculate the approximate value of a pi (π).
  • He found areas and volumes of spheres, cylinders, and plain shapes. He showed that the volume of a sphere is two-thirds of the volume of the smallest cylinder that can contain the sphere.

Hence, it could be concluded that "things are numbers" is quoted by Pythagoras.
