Correct Answer - Option 4 : 12000

Given:

Total population increased from 18000 to 27000

Males increased by 70%

Females increased by 40%

Calculation:

Let the initial numbers of females be f

Then, number of males initially = 18000 - f

According to the question,

Increased population = 1.4f + 1.7(18000 - f) = 27000

⇒ 30600 - 0.3f = 27000

⇒ f = 12000

∴ Initial number of females = 12000
