  • Soli Sorabjee Commission was set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs to draft a new Model Police Act in September 2005.

    • The Commission submitted its report in 1988.
    • the Commission recommended the status quo in the Centre-State relations in the areas relating to legislative matters, the role of Governors, and the use of Article 356.
  • Rajamannar committee
    • DMK Government of Tamil Nadu appointed a three-member committee under the chairmanship of Dr P.V. Rajamannar in September 1969.

    • It recommended an Inter-State Council should be constituted immediately.
    • All-India Services (IAS, IPS and IFS) should be abolished.

    • The Government of India constituted a Commission on Centre-State Relations under the chairmanship of Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi, former Chief Justice of India on 27 April 2007
    • It looks into the new issues of Centre-State relations keeping in view the changes that have taken place in the polity and economy of India since the Sarkaria Commission had last looked at the issue of Centre-State relations over two decades ago.
    • It examined what could be the role, responsibility and jurisdiction of the Centre during major and prolonged outbreaks of communal violence, caste violence or any other social conflicts.
