Directions: Each of the questions given below consists of a question and 2 statements numbered I and II. You have to decide whether the data is sufficient to answer the question. Read both Statements carefully and then answer the questions.

What will be the selling price of the dishwasher to make a profit of 25%?

Statement I. An electronic shop dealer marks dishwasher machine 80% above the cost price and after allowing a discount of 25% he claims a profit of Rs. 3500.

Statement II. A shopkeeper sold the dishwasher machine for Rs. 15000 on one condition that the shopkeeper should pay the transportation cost of the machine of Rs. 2000 and he gets a profit of 25%.
1. The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
2. The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.
3. The data in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.
4. The data in both statements I and II are not sufficient to answer the question.
5. The data in both statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

Correct Answer - Option 3 : The data in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Calculation:

From statement I:

Let the cost price of the machine be x

Then the marked price of the machine

⇒ x + 80 / 100 × x = 1.8x

⇒ S.P = 1.8x × (100 - 25) / 100 = 1.35x

Now, Profit = 1.35x - x

⇒ Profit = 0.35x

But,

0.35x = 3500

X = 10000

So, C.P = 10,000

⇒ S.P = 125 / 100 × 10000 = 12500

Statement I alone is sufficient.

From Statement II:

Let the cost price of the machine be x

∴ C.P after transportation = x + 2000

Then,

⇒ (x + 2000) / 15000 = 100 / 125

⇒ x + 2000 = 12000

⇒ x = 10000

So, C.P = 10,000

⇒ S.P = 125 / 100 × 10000 = 12500

Statement II alone is sufficient.
