Over 1400 Indus Valley Civilization sites have been discovered, of which 925 sites are in India and 475 sites in Pakistan.

  • Chirand:
    • It is an archaeological site in the Saran district of Bihar, India, situated on the northern bank of the Ganga River.
    • It has a large pre-historic mound which is known for its continuous archaeological record from the Neolithic age (about 2500–1345 BC) to the reign of the Pala dynasty who ruled during the pre-medieval period.
    • The excavations in Chirand have revealed stratified Neolithic, Chalcolithic, and Iron Age settlements, and transitions in human habitation patterns dating from 2500 BC to 30 AD.
  • Koldihwa:
    • Koldihwa is an archaeological site in Uttar Pradesh, India.
    • It is situated in the valleys of Belan River near village Devghat. Along with Mahagara, it is one of the few Neolithic sites in Uttar Pradesh.
    • Both are in district Prayagraj.
    • Both sites are the earliest examples of Rice cultivation Oryza sativa.
    • It is also the site of the finding of horse bones.
  • Burzahom:
    • The Burzahom archaeological site is located in the Kashmir Valley of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
    • Archaeological excavations have revealed four phases of cultural significance between 3000 BC and 1000 BC.
    • Periods I and II represent the Neolithic era; Period III the Megalithic era (of massive stone menhirs and the wheel turned red pottery); and Period IV relates to the early Historical Period (Post-megalithic period).
  • Hallur:
    • Hallur is an archaeological site located in the Haveri district (which was carved out of Dharwad district), in the Indian state of Karnataka
    • Hallur, South India's earliest Iron Age site, lies in a semi-arid region with scrub vegetation, located on the banks of the river Tungabhadra.
    • The site was first discovered by Nagaraja Rao in 1962 and excavated in 1965.
