Correct Answer - Option 4 : 42.5 km/h

Given:

Two speeds are 40 km/h and 45 km/h and times are 6 hours each time.

Formula used:

If time(1) = time(2), and two different speed are given, then formula for calculation average speed is as follows:

Average speed = Sum of speed/2

Calculation:

Average speed = (40 + 45)/2

= 85/2

= 42.5 km/h

Detailed solution

Total distance = 45 × 6 + 40 × 6 = 270 + 240 = 510 km

Total time = 6 + 6 = 12 hrs

∴ Average speed = 510/12 = 42.5 km/h
