  • Valmiki Tiger Reserve forms the easternmost limit of the Himalayan Terai forests in India and is the only tiger reserve of Bihar.
  • Valmiki Tiger Reserve lies in the north-western (mostly in the West Champaran) district of Bihar. The name of the district has been derived from two words Champa and Aranya meaning Forest of Champa trees. 
  • Situated in the Gangetic Plains bio-geographic zone of the country, the forest has a combination of bhabar and terai tracts.

 

  • Project Tiger was launched by the Government of India in the year 1973 to save the endangered species of tiger in the country.  Starting from nine (9) reserves in 1973-2016 the number is grown up to fifty (50).
