Correct Answer - Option 3 : Virtual, diminished

The correct answer is option 3) i.e. Virtual, diminished

CONCEPT:

  • Concave lens: It is a diverging lens that diverges the parallel beam of light.
    • It can also gather light from all directions and project it as a parallel beam.
    • The focal length of the concave lens is negative.
    • It has a virtual focus from the diverging rays of light that seem to converge.
  • Images formed by concave lenses:
    • Images are always smaller than the object, erect, and virtual.
    • As the distance between the object and the lens decreases, the size of the virtual image increases as the distance between the virtual image and the mirror decreases.

EXPLANATION:

  • When an object is placed between the optical centre and focus, it will be at the maximum possible nearest to the lens.
  • Therefore, the object will produce an image that is smaller in size than object itself.
  • Hence, an object is placed in front of a concave lens between the optical centre and the focus produces virtual and diminished images.
