Correct Answer - Option 4 : 3

Given:

The given numbers are 273 and 294 and remainder is 3.

Concept Used:

When we need to find the greatest number in that case we calculate the HCF of numbers

Here we have to find the greatest number which when divides x and y leaves the remainder a

∴ Required number = HCF of [(x - a), (y - a)]

Calculation:

Required number = HCF of [(273 - 3) and (294 - 3)] = HCF of (270 and 291)

∴ HCF of (270 and 291) = 3

In such a question, there is no relation so as to whether the number itself is divisible, but calls for the number when the remainder is subtracted from the number given in the question.
