Correct Answer - Option 5 : x = y or relationship between x and y can't be established

I. x2 – x – 20 = 0

⇒ x2 – 5x + 4x – 20 = 0

⇒ x (x – 5) + 4 (x – 5) = 0

 ⇒ (x + 4) (x – 5) = 0

∴  x = 5, – 4

II. y2 + 2y – 15 = 0

⇒ y2 + 5y – 3y – 15 = 0

⇒ y (y + 5) – 3 (y + 5) = 0

⇒ (y – 3) (y + 5) = 0

∴  y =  3, – 5

On comparing the values of x and y,

x > y

∴ x = y or relationship between x and y can't be established
