Given: 

The average age of the family, 3 years ago was 22 years

Formula used:

Average age = Total age of the person/Total number of the person

Calculation:

Let the present age of newborn be x years

Total age of the family 3 years ago = 3 × 22 = 66

Total present age of the family after the birth of a new member = 66 + 9 + 4x = 75 + x

The total present age of the family = 19 × 4 = 76

Now, 75 + x = 76

⇒ x = 1

∴ The present age of the newborn is 1 year
