Aim:
To demonstrate the directional property of a bar magnet. What do you need?
(Materials required):
Bar magnet, thread, stand and colour. What to do?
(Procedure):
1. Suspend the bar magnet freely with the help of a thread tied around its center.

2. The magnet finally takes a position in the North-South direction.
3. Mark the end points towards the North with some color.
4. Now disturb the magnet and again wait for some time.
What do you see?
(Observation):
Magnets always come to rest in the North-South direction. In each case the marked endpoints towards North. What do you learn?
(Result):
The marked end is known as the North pole of the magnet. The other end, which points towards the South is known as the South pole of the magnet. This property of magnets is called directional property.
