Hydrogen peroxide acts both as an oxidizing and as a reducing agent in alkaline solution towards certain first row transition metal ion. Illustrate both these properties of H2O2 using chemical equations.

When H2O2 acts as oxidising agent, therefore, following reaction takes place

H2O2 + 2e 2OH-

while, regarding its action on reducing agent, the following reaction takes place :
