The Dog, who is the central character in the story is shown to be longing for the strongest beast on earth to be his master. In this search for his master, the Dog comes across various animals whom he thinks to be the strongest. However, each of his masters was frightened of a stronger beast – stronger s in strength and intelligence. The Dog thus leaves his present master to join another who is supposedly stronger than the one whom he serves. This ‘fear of the other’ running through the story explains the fact that ‘might ‘ is right’ is the rule of the jungle.
