Consumers’ Protection Act, 1986 is the latest act which safeguards the interests of the consumers in the following ways :
- Protects against the marketing of commodities hazardous to life and property.
- Informs about the quality, purity, potency, weight and price of the commodity.
- Ensures the availability of goods at a competitive price.
- Seeks redressal against unfair trade practices.
- Provides setting up of:
(a) Consumers’ forum at district level.
(b) State forum and commission at state level.
(c) National Consumers’ Grievances Redressal Cell at national level.
