Methods of expressing concentration of a solution
The amount of solute in a solution can be expressed in terms of two systems of units :
- Group A units specify the amount of solute in a given volume of solution, such as strength molarity, normality etc.
- Group B units specify the amount of solute for a given mass of solvent or solution, such as mass %, mole fraction, molality etc
- The advantage of Group A units is the ease of solution preparation and that of Group B units is the temperature independence.
In a given solution, let solute be represented by (1) and the solvent by (2)
