Assertion (A): A hippopotamus has thicker legs for its size than a mouse does. 

Reason (R): The compressive load on the leg bones of an animal depends on its weight, which in turn varies as the cube L3 of a representative linear dimension L such as its length or height. The strength of a bone, however, depends on its cross –sectional area which for similar animals varies as L2 . A large animal must have relatively thicker leg bones than a small one because L3 increases faster than L2
