Both the spies were in the room along with Fowler. They both were trying to get over each other by their tricks. Max was asking for report while Ausable was planning to get rid of Max. Soon, someone knocked at the door. It was a waiter but Ausable told Max that they were the police. Max tried to escape himself. He went to the window of the room to hide himself in the balcony. He jumped onto the balcony which really did not exist. So he fell down and died. In this way Ausable saved himself by the knock at the door.
