There are different ways of connecting a home computer to the Internet. These include:
- DSL: DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. It refers to an internet connection that stays on.
- Dial-Up: Dial-up connection is cheap but slow at the same time. A modem is kept in connection with the Internet after the computer dials a phone number. This analogue signal is thereby turned to digital and sent over a land-line service using a public telephone network
- Cable: Cable provides internet connection using a cable modem and functions over cable TV lines.
- Wireless: Wireless, as the name suggests, does not make use of telephone lines or cables to connect to the internet. Wireless connections use radio frequencies instead.
- Satellite: Satellite connections access the internet with the help of a satellite in Earth’s orbit.
- Cellular: Cellular technology provides wireless Internet access using cell phones.
