In a plane electromagnetic wave travelling in free space, the electric field component oscillates sinusoidally at a frequency of 2.0 × 1010 Hz and amplitude 48 Vm-1. Then the amplitude of oscillating magnetic field is: (Speed of light in free space = 3 x 108 ms-1)

(1) 1.6 x 10-8 T
(2) 1.6 x 10-7 T
(3) 1.6 x 10-6 T
(4) 1.6 x 10-9 T

Best answer

Correct option is (2) 1.6 x 10-7 T

C = \(\frac{E_0}{B_0}\)

\(B_0\) = \(\frac{E_0}{C}\)

\(\frac{48}{3\ \times\ 10^8}\)

= 1.6 x 10-7 T
