M. Hamel was heartly distressed that day. He was wearing his beautiful green coat, with frilled shirt,and a little black silk cal,all embroidered. He usually wore this dress on inspection and on the days of function or prize distribution.
He wore the dress on that day as he was aware that he is going to give his last lesson in their mother tongue French. The new order was placed on the Bulletin board that German will be imposed on the schools of Alsace and Lorraine. M. Hamel developed sense of loosing his mother tongue and a fear that he would not be able to dressed again like this in the school. M. Hamel drove his fear and sorrow under his heart and taught all the students a big lesson that day, that value of an object should be considered as early because when it drove out is looses its real meaning.
