Maximum occupancy of electrons in a given orbit is given by 2n2 where 'n' represents number of orbit. K = 1, L = 2, M = 3 N = 4 and so on. The last shell of any atom can only accomodate 8 electrons only. The outermost electrons are called valence electrons.
