Atomic number-79 and mass number-197.

It occurs as a metal (free state) in nature as well as in the forms of ores.

Some important ores of the gold are calaverite (AuTe2) sylvanite (Ag, Au) etc.

It is most malleable and ductile metal and it is a good conductor of heat and electricity.

This is used in making ornaments, coins, salt photograph of gold, in electroplating, in sugar industries.

Thin layers of the gold are used in pharmaceutical industries.

Purity of gold : Gold which is completely pure is of 24 carats.
