Marsh gas, sometimes known as methane, is created underwater by anaerobic bacterial decomposition of plant materials in the rumen of herbivorous animals.
Methane, a molecule having one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms, is the most abundant component of natural gas (CH4).
About 55-65 percent of raw biogas is methane (CH4), 30-45 percent is carbon dioxide (CO2), with traces of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and a small amount of water vapour.
