(a) sino-atrial node

The mammalian heart is myogenic and is regulated by nerves. The heartbeat in this originates from sino-atrial (SA) node.

The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes them to contract. The SA node sets the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. It is also called natural pacemaker of heart.
