Frequency: The number of times a wave passes through a given point in one second is called the frequency of the wave. It is denoted by v (nu) and is expressed in cycles per second (Cps) or hertz (Hz) units (1 Hz = 1 Cps). The frequency of a wave is inversely proportional to its wavelength, i.e.
\(v \propto \frac 1\lambda\)
