Diet is a mixture of different foodstuffs required for carrying out day-to-day work and for maintaining health.
Biochemically, diet consists of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins provide energy and maintain tissues subjected to normal physiological process of wear and tear. Vitamins, minerals and water do not yield energy, but are essential to control the metabolic activities of the body tissues.
