Stephen's reaction involves conversion of alkyl cyanides in to aldehydes by using SnCl2 and dil. HCl as a reducing agent.

Basically Stephens reaction can be considered as a reduction reaction in which nitriles are converted to aldehydes I.e it's an controlled reduction reaction.
