Best answer

Correct option is (D) 931 MeV

1 a.m.u. = 1.66 × 10−27 kg

According to Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence relation,

\(E = (\Delta m)c^2\)

So, we need to find energy equivalent of 1 a.m.u.

E = (1.66 × 1027kg) × (3 × 108m/s)2

= 1.49 × 10−10 J

But 1 MeV = 1.6 × 10−13 J

\(E = \frac {1.49 \times 10^{-10}}{1.6 \times 10^{-13}}\) MeV

= 931MeV

Thus, 1 amu of mass is equivalent to 931 MeV of energy.
