(i) India Through a Traveller’s Eyes 

"India Through a Traveller's Eyes" is short extract written by Pearl S. Buck in this extract she describes how she was fascinated about India. It is because of this fascination that she pays a visit to this country. Consequently, she discusses the impression she gathered of India. In other words, she describes India as she has seen her and found her. The author early says that the purpose of her visit to India was not to see the Taj Mahal Fatehpur Sikri or the glories of empire in New Delhi although she saw all these things. she visited India to see and listen two groups of people the young intellectuals in cities and the peasants in villages. She met the young intellectuals in small rooms in parties. She heard their plan of independence. She found them angry because England had gone back on their promise to restore India to their people after the first world war. They thought that another world was innevitable. Pearl's Buck was shocked to see condition of the peasants when she visited rural India. She found them the Indian peasants worse than that the chinese. She is very impressed by Indian culture. Leadership in India, according to her is born out of renunciation. She comes to this exclusion of after she finds a paralyzed old man lying on a raised bed accorded respect by local people. They touch his feet and seek his advice on urgent matters of their family.

(ii) A Child is Born 

"A child is Born" is a remarkable essay written by germaine Green. In this essay green reveals the different ways of child birth in different traditional societies. Women who are to give birth to a child have to observe several rituals taboos and prohibitions. Some of them are useful and sensible others magical. at the time of pregnancy, a lady goes to her mother's house for the last few months where she gets love and proper care. There is a unique naming ceremony full of fun and pleasure. The modern technology of childbirth has reduced the rate of mother-child's mortality. The use of modern medicines sometimes, produce disastrous results. children in Bangladesh are looked after by the whole family. children listen Rupthaka (Jairly tales) from their favourite aunt. They go to sleep in their mother's embrace. The modern, women is deprived of the blessing of a joint family. there is no one to look after the infant and encourage the woman at the time of pregnancy.

(iii) I Have a Dream

"I have A dream" is a speech delivered by Nobel prize winner Martin Luther king Junior, on the steps of the Lincoln memorial in Washington. D.C. in 1963. On the occasion he pays tribute to Abraham Lincoln who signed the emancipation proclamation. it generated light of hope among the negro slaves who were no better than beast. The speaker paints out that although one century has passed by yet negroes are facing segregation and discrimination. They are languishing in poverty too. king Jr. Further says that the time is running out. American must remove racial injustice. It must bring equality between the black and the white. He warns that any delay may prove fatal and shake the very foundation of the country. The speaker is MODE quick to add that no bad means should be employed to realise or attain freedom. He calls upon the audience, the majority of whom were negroes to conduct their struggle in dignified and disciplined manner. It should be free from bitterness and hatred. He exhorts the audience particularly the negroes to go back to Mississippi, to Alabama, to Georgia and to Louisiana in the hope that the situation will change.
