1. Manages all the other programs on your computer, stores files in an organized manner, and coordinates the use of the computer hardware such as the keyboard and mouse.
2. The operating system frees one from having to interact directly with the hardware— other than clicking the mouse button or pressing keys on the keyboard— to complete tasks.
