AWS Direct Connect works by establishing a physical connection between your network and an AWS Direct Connect location. This connection can be 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet connection. Virtual interfaces (VIFs) are then created over this physical connection to connect to AWS resources such as Amazon VPCs or public AWS services.
