The refractive index of a material is \(\sqrt3\). What is the angle of refraction if the unpolarised light is incident on it at the polarising angle of the medium.

 Given µ = \(\sqrt3,\) r = ?, i = i_p

Since µ = tan i_p

∴ i_p = tan^-1 (µ) = tan^-1 \(\sqrt3\) = 60°

Also i_p + r = 90°

∴ r = 90° - i_p = 90° - 60° = 30°.
