There are 10 pieces of wire.

1 meter = 100 centimeters

Therefore, 0.5 meter = 50 centimeters

If each piece is 5 cm long, then the number of pieces can be found by dividing the total length of wire by the length of each piece:

50 cm ÷ 5 cm/piece = 10 pieces

Therefore, there are 10 pieces of wire.
