The pyruvic acid molecules made in the cytosol by glycolysis enter into the mitochondria. 

Within the mitochondria, each pyruvic an acid molecule is converted into one a molecule of acetyl-CoA (acetyl coenzyme A) with the liberation of one carbon dioxide. The Krebs cycle (also known as citric acid cycle), the second stage of aerobic respiration, then begins.
