7. Many Modern historians refused this that the revolt of 1857 should be consider as first war of independence. They simply mean that it was sepoy mutiny just took place coz of enfield refiles and it was only limited to the northern parts of the country. And before it many short revolts had taken place in Indian History. So they don't consider the revolt as 'First war of Independence'.

So, the rebels marched towards Delhi and declared Bahadur Shah Zafar as the Emperor of India, though he was not very popular, powerless and very old also.
