Activity: Assessment of Pressure-Temperature Relation (Gay Lussac Law)

Required materials: 5 mL syringe (without needle), tape, lukewarm water

Activity:

Step 1: Take a 5 mL syringe and half fill it with lukewarm water. On pressing the plunger of the syringe, water will come out easily, why?

Step 2: Now, again half fill the syringe with lukewarm water and close the tip of the syringe using a tape. This time pressing of plunger requires more force i.e. more pressure. On keeping the pressure on the plunger, we will see after a few seconds, water starts boiling, why?
