(I) Oxidation reaction : (O) (O) 

1° alcohol → aldehyde → carboxylic acid (O) (O) 

2° alcohol→ ketone → carboxylic acid (acid with loss of 1 carbon atom) (O) 

3° alcohol→ resistant to oxidation (II) Hydrogenation reaction : give 1° alco

hol → aldehyde 

2° alcohol → ketone 

3° alcohol → alkene 3

° alcohols prefer to undergo dehydration and form alken
