Cement is a mixture of finely grinded mixture of calcium silicates and aluminates which sets to a hard mass when treated with water. It is known as Portland cement because it resembles with famous building stone found near Portland in England.
The important components of Portland cement are:
- Di-calcium silicate (Ca2SiO4): 26%
- Tri-calcium silicate (Ca3SiO): 51%
- Tri-calcium aluminate (Ca3Al2O6): 11%
